Automated 4G Water Level Control for Municipal Reservoirs
Case Background
A customer from Argentina contacted us, saying “We are looking for a 4G water level monitoring system for large municipal water reservoirs installed outdoors. The system must support SIM card communication and include a relay (dry contact) to control water pumps for automatically refilling reservoirs, including units located at higher elevations. I need control and dry contact to relay.” After talking with him, we had a clear look of his application.
The Challenge
The average depth of these large reservoirs is 5 meters. And the site is far from his office. His requirements include:
Wireless Connectivity: Remote data transmission via 4G SIM card.
Automated Control: Integrated dry contact relays to trigger water pumps for automatic refilling.
Platform Integration: The ability to push data from the hardware directly to the client’s private cloud.

The HPT604 was selected for its durability in outdoor municipal environments.
- The Intelligence Hub: HK308 4G RTU/DTU Gateway
The HK308 acts as the brain of the system. By inserting a 4G SIM card, it collects data from the HPT604 and transmits it wirelessly. It supports both 4G and Ethernet simultaneously for redundant connectivity, and a WIFI version is optional.
Implementation & Data Integration
The HK308 offers a flexible architecture for software integration:
API Bridging: Our engineers can assist in moving data from the HOLYKELL platform to the client’s platform using our standard API protocols.
Direct MQTT Support: For clients with existing MQTT-based platforms, we can match the HK308 protocol to enable direct, low-latency communication between the hardware and the client’s server.
Results
The client has applied two units on site first and he is quite satisfied with the testing results. He is planning to purchase over 100 kits for his other reservoirs.
