What is a Volumetric Flow Meter?

Aug 11 , 2023

Volumetric flow meters are designed to calculate volume, or the amount of fluid passing through the system during a given time period. They have various types, and positive displacement flow meter is a typical one.

What Is A Positive Displacement Flow Meter?

A positive displacement type flow meter as a mechanical flow meter is a common type of Volumetric Flow Meter. It mainly measures the volume flow of high viscosity and corrosive fluids.

Positive Displacement Flow Meter Working Principle

Model VF is one of Holykell featured volumetric flow meter types. Its working principle is like this. When the rotating components within a chamber capture the fluid, the rotational speed of the rotor is proportional to the flow rate. Rotation is caused by the fluid flow. Mechanical flow meter relies on the rotation to drive a magnetic coupling or direct gear train connected to a mechanical counter. Under the conditions of a given flow meter, the volume of the metering space is determined. The cumulative volume of fluid passing through the flow meter is then obtained.

Features And Advantages

The positive displacement meters can measure intermittent flows;

A wide variety of liquids including viscosity liquids capable;

The measurement is not affected by liquid’s viscosity, density or the turbulence in the pipe;

High accuracy ±0.2%F.S with low pressure drops; Excellent repeatability which can be as high as 0.05% of reading;

they do not necessitate straight upstream and downstream pipe runs to install them;

PD meters exist in size up to 12 in.

Holykell Model VF is a volumetric flow meter oil that mainly measures nonabrasive fluids like petrol, diesel, kerosene and other low viscosity medium.
